Retrospective Exhibition of Macao Decorative Archways for the Celebration of China’s National Day to host outdoor touring exhibition

Organised by the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) and the Oral History Association of Macao, co-organised by the Macau Artist Society, and supported by Macao Daily News, the “Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region—Retrospective Exhibition of Macao Decorative Archways for the Celebration of China’s National Day” will be launched on 20 September in the IAM Gallery. Through displaying precious photos and design drawings of the decorative archways, the exhibition with rich, invaluable content showcases the development and changes of the archways built to celebrate the National Day since the late 1940s.



Results of Hotels and Similar Establishments Survey 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 145 hotel establishments (including hotels and economical accommodation establishments) were operating in 2023, an increase of 12 year-on-year; total number of persons engaged grew by 27.8% to 45,704. With a rebound in the occupancy rate of guest rooms on the back of a surge in the number of guests, receipts of the hotel sector soared by 136.4% year-on-year to MOP37.93 billion. Besides, expenditure (excluding depreciation and interest paid) totalled MOP29.84 billion, up by 41.1% year-on-year. The hotel sector recorded a Gross Surplus of MOP8.18 billion in 2023, marking a turnaround from a deficit in the previous year. Gross Value Added that measures the sectoral contribution to the economy stood at MOP20.35 billion, an uplift of 302% year-on-year.


Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – August 2024

The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today (13 September) that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP228.9 billion (USD28.50 billion) at the end of August 2024, which remained virtually unchanged from the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-August 2024 represented 11 times the currency in circulation or 90.1% of pataca M2 at end-July 2024.


WTT Champions Macao 2024 presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group – round of 16 concluded

The fourth matchday of WTT Champions Macao 2024 presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group, organized by the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, World Table Tennis (WTT) and Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG), and co-organized by the Macau Table Tennis General Association, was held today (12 September) at the Macao East Asian Games Dome.



East-West Encounter, Asia in Harmony Macao awarded “Culture City of East Asia 2025”

The award ceremony of the “Culture City of East Asia 2025” was held today (12 September) in Kyoto, Japan. On behalf of the Macao SAR, the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Ao Ieong U was presented the plaque of Macao as a “Culture City of East Asia 2025”, adding another glittering “gold business card” to Macao as an international metropolis.


Concert by the Macao Chinese Orchestra “A Full Moon Night at the Ruins of St. Paul’s 2024” celebrates the Mid-Autumn Festival with the public

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and co-ordinated by the Macao Orchestra Company Limited, the Mid-Autumn Festival Concert by the Macao Chinese Orchestra “A Full Moon Night at the Ruins of St.Paul’s 2024” will be held on 17 September, at 8pm and 9pm, at the Ruins of St. Paul’s, featuring a number of well-known musical pieces presented by the Macao Chinese Orchestra (OCHM), counting with the presence of a special guest, Germano Guilherme, celebrating this festivity with residents and visitors.


IAM extends opening hours of parks and gardens during Mid-Autumn Festival period

To facilitate the public’s enjoyment of the festive period and moon gazing outdoors on the night of Mid-Autumn Festival, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) will especially extend the opening hours of several parks and gardens to 1:00 a.m. of the following day from 16 to 18 September, so that the public can go to parks and gardens for leisure and gatherings with their family and friends.


Issue Date of the Stamp Issue “Macao Bridge”

Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau announces that the stamp theme related to the fourth Macao-Taipa bridge in the Issue Plan 2024 is officially named “Macao Bridge”, and will be issued on 1st October 2024.
