Consumer Council held information session on “Certified Shops” to boost consumers’ confidence and encourage business developments


The Consumer Council held an information session on “Online Certified Shops” earlier to introduce the requirements and monitoring measures to its “Certified Shops”. The Council indicates that “Online Certified Shops” are required to follow guidelines that safeguard consumer rights, thus enhancing consumers’ confidence and encouraging shops to expand businesses. The Council will work according to the SAR Government’s e-commerce policy to encourage and assist “Certified Shops” to develop online business so that consumers will have more choices when it comes to online shopping.

“Online Certified Shops” promise 100% resolution of dispute

The Consumer Council now accepts application from current “Certified Shops” that operate online business, shops are required to have their own websites or mobile phone apps, and offer delivery service, etc. to meet the basic requirements of “Online Certified Shops”, shops also need to promise to resolve all consumer disputes.

The Council has established various monitoring measures, including online inspection, and an online platform for comments collection on “Online Certified Shops”. A lot of inquiries have been received from “Certified Shops” since the launch of the new mechanism, the Council therefore held an information session earlier to small and medium sized enterprises from the souvenir (specialty foods), clothing and apparel, and florist industries, etc., to explain the menchanism.

Shops encouraged to expand online business and join mechanism

As online shopping in popularized now, consumer protection is more important than ever, “Online Certified Shops” are monitored and assured by the Consumer Council, giving confidence to consumers to shop at them. The Council encourages “Certified Shops” that operate online business to join the online mechanism and expand their network through the different media channels of the Council; for those that do not operate online business at the moment, the Council will also assist them to expand their business online.

The Council indicates that the more the number of “Online Certified Shops”, the more choices will become available for consumers to choose, all interested “Certified Shops” are welcome to make enquiry and join the mechanism.
