October is a Contribution Month and FSS Reminds Employers to Pay Contributions as Early as Possible

For the social security system, October is the contribution month for the third quarter of this year. The Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) reminds that the flow of people at the service point is expected to increase at the end of the month. In order to avoid the peak flow at month end, employers should make their payment as early as possible, and those who have already applied for electronic filing service should use electronic payment channels to make their payments as much as possible. As of 19 October, a total of 14,134 employers have already paid the obligatory system contributions for their employees, accounting for 66% of the total number of employers who need to pay contributions.

All employers are required to pay contributions for their local long-term employees on or before 31stOctober (Wednesday). If a non-resident worker is hired, the employer must also pay the employment fee for non-resident workers at the same time. If there is no change in the employment situation of local long-term employees during the quarter, besides the service points of the FSS, the related contributions and the employment fee for non-resident workers can also be paid at the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau’s Central District Public Services Centre, Islands District Public Services Centre and Seac Pai Van Sub-Station, or at the nine designated banks (including Bank of China Macau Branch, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Macau) Ltd., Banco Comercial de Macau, Tai Fung Bank, Banco Nacional Ultramarino, OCBC Wing Hang Bank, Macau Chinese Bank, Luso International Banking Limited and Delta Asia Bank).

As required by law, employers must pay a late payment interest and a fine if they make their payments late. As for beneficiaries of the arbitrary system, those who make their contributions late cannot settle the default contributions unless they pay the contributions together with a late payment interest within two months after the expiration of the statutory deadline.
