UM’s Mandarin Debating Team wins the championship of the International Chinese Debating Competition 2018

The University of Macau (UM) Mandarin Debating Team recently won the championship at the International Chinese Debating Competition 2018, after beating its counterpart from the University of Malaya. Ji Jiaqi from the UM team won the Overall Best Speaker Award.

This year’s event attracted debating teams from various universities, including UM, the University of Cambridge, the National University of Singapore, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Renmin University of China, Tsinghua University, Wuhan University, Nanjing University, Tianjin University, and Soochow University in Taiwan.

The International Chinese Debating Competition is the top international Chinese debating competition in the world. Each year, 24 Chinese debating teams from around the world are invited to participate in the competition.

Members of the UM team include Xing Wendi, a fourth-year student from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Lui Chi Woo College; Ji Jiaqi, a postgraduate student from the Department of Electromechanical Engineering; Huang Xiaowei, a fourth-year student from the Faculty of Business Administration and Stanley Ho East Asia College; and Liu Xiran, a postgraduate student from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature.
