Interdepartmental drill on class-suspension notification due to inclement weather

In order to review the notification mechanism for class suspension due to inclement weather; to enhance the effectiveness of interdepartmental collaboration; to achieve sound execution of class-suspension notification; to allow residents, schools, parents and students to get the class-suspension information promptly; the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) will conduct an interdepartmental drill on class-suspension notification due to issuance of rainstorm warning signal on 10th March (Sunday). The participating departments include: the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG), Fire Services Bureau, Public Security Police Force, Transport Bureau, Department of Chinese News of TDM - Teledifusão de Macau, Radio Macau, Macau Lotus TV, Macau Asia Satellite TV, Macau Cable TV and Macao Daily News, etc.

At 6 a.m. on the day of the drill, a simulation of issuance of rainstorm warning signal will be made by the SMG. The DSEJ will immediately activate the notification mechanism and notify the relevant public agencies and media to jointly conduct the drill in accordance with the set working procedures. The entire drill is expected to last about one hour. The DSEJ hopes that the participating units will be more familiar with the class-suspension notification process through the drill, thus ensuring that the class-suspension information can be released more smoothly.

Regarding the arrangements of class suspension due to inclement weather, the DSEJ regularly distributes the leaflets and posters of “Measures taken by schools when tropical cyclone warning signals, rainstorm warning signal are in force or in adverse weather conditions” to parents through schools every year. Promotional videos are broadcast through the media, as well as on the website at www.dsej.gov.mo and the WeChat account of the DSEJ so that students and parents can grasp the corresponding class-suspension arrangements and the channels to access the related information.

The DSEJ encourages residents to download the DSEJ Mobile App. and follow its WeChat account to timely know the information about class-suspension due to inclement weather and the latest educational information. When tropical cyclone/rainstorm warning signals are in force, or in adverse weather conditions, residents can also learn about the class-suspension information, if there is any, through the website of the SMG, the radio, the television, the LED screen at the Border Gate Building, the Macao Daily News Mobile App. and so forth. In addition, the DSEJ especially reminds cross-boundary students to install the DSEJ Mobile App and follow its WeChat account, watch the channel of Macau Asia Satellite TV of Zhuhai Cable TV Network (No. 10 digital signal/ No. 43 analog signal) and pay attention to the LED screen at the Border Gate Building to learn about the relevant class-suspension information.
