31st Macao International Music Festival Highlights Preview

Opera in Four Acts by Umberto Giordano: Andrea Chénier

The 31st Macao International Music Festival (MIMF), organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will be held in October. The Festival features not only renowned musicians and ensembles but also local and foreign rising stars, offering a grand musical feast to the music aficionados.

In order to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Umberto Giordano, this edition of the MIMF cooperates with the Teatro Regio Torino (Italy) in the production of Giordano’s four-acts opera Andrea Chénier, and invites the prestigious Vienna Philharmonic to present two magnificent concerts featuring the maestro’s works in the classical and romantic period. This year’s Festival also invites a number of rising stars from music sector, including the leading chamber ensembles in South Korea, Novus String Quartet, young Russian Pianist Lukas Geniušas and American jazz singer Jazzmeia Horn hailed as “the future of Jazz”, among others, summoning international emerging stars to showcase their talents on Macao’s stage.

In addition, a choir from South Africa brings songs brimming with African customs, while the local opera premiered at the Festival last year will return to stage with a new version, A Fragrant Dream, this year. They are certainly the shows that audience members must not miss.
