The Chinese-Portuguese Bilingual Teaching and Training Centre (CPC) under the Department of Portuguese, University of Macau (UM), and Rui Cunha Foundation, will jointly hold a workshop on intercultural dialogues from 1 April to 4 April. Prof Ana Cristina Alves will be the speaker.
Titled ‘Intercultural Dialogues: Chinese Characters and Western Notions’, this workshop will comprise four sessions. Sessions on 1 April, 3 April, and 4 April will be held in Room 1046, Faculty of Arts and Humanities building (E21), UM, from 7:00pm to 9:30pm. The session on 2 April will be held at Rui Cunha Foundation from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. The session on 4 April will be conducted in English while the other sessions will be in Portuguese. The workshop aims to explore the concepts of ‘self’ and ‘other’ between Chinese characters and Western notions, and to deconstruct the stereotypes and prejudices on Eastern Chinese philosophy and Western philosophy.
Prof Ana Alves holds a PhD degree in history, culture, and religious studies and has published works in various fields, including Oito Cartas de Macau, a children’s book co-authored with Celina Veiga de Oliveira; Contos da Terra do Dragão and Mitos e Lendas da Terra do Dragão, two books on culture and translation co-authored with Wang Suoying; A Sabedoria Chinesa, a book on philosophy; Culturas em Diálogo: A Tradução Chinês-Português, a book on translation studies; and Chinese-Portuguese / Portuguese-Chinese Dictionary.
