Macao Public Library launches the 18th issue of Books and the City

The Macao Public Library, under the Cultural Affairs Bureau, launches the 18th issue of Books and the City, which is already available to the public. As a special issue about ‘books on beverages’, this edition features an interview with two professional publishers of books about the alcohol industry, who introduce several quality books and magazines on beverages to guide readers through an intoxicating reading experience.

In this issue, the column ‘Library Portrait’ narrates sentimental moments where families read together at the children’s reading areas in the Macao Public Library. To provide readers with more convenient times and areas to read, the Macao Public Library is progressively enhancing its services and the column ‘Library Handbook’ introduces the positive effects brought by the extended opening hours and the further enhancements to be rolled out this year. The column ‘Author’s Say’ invited Macao author Gu Bing to share his thoughts on the stories he has written in remarkably different styles. The column ‘Library Wonder Why’ introduces the Wanfang Database to readers, while the column “New Launch” introduces a rich variety of new arrivals, including books, movies, music and magazines. This issue also features ten brief yet insightful book reviews in Chinese, Portuguese and English.

A total of 3,000 copies of Books and the City are available free of charge at all libraries under the Cultural Affairs Bureau, tertiary institutions, Tap Seac Gallery and several bookstores as well as cultural and art spaces in Macao. The online versions of the past seventeen issues are also available at the Macao Public Library website at www.library.gov.mo.
