Due to the overwhelming demand, the Macao Cultural Centre, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will be presenting a second date for Under Siege, a modern dance master-piece brought by renowned choreographer Yang Liping. The additional show will hit the stage on September 6, at the Grand Auditorium.
Considered a singular force in Chinese dance, Yang Liping inspired herself on an epochal tale known in Chinese opera and lore as Farewell My Concubine, reinventing it into a visually powerful story of ambition, treason and eternal love.
The choreographer explores the epic battle between the Chu and Han armies, an event which changed the course of Chinese history, combining contemporary and folk dance, martial arts and hip-hop, merging Chinese opera with novel tunes performed by live musicians on stage. Yang Liping joined forces with Academy and BAFTA award-winning set and costume designer Tim Yip (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Akram Khan's Desh), conjuring up visual magic with artist-designer Liu Beili.
Under Siege’s shows will be staged on September 6 and 7 at the Grand Auditorium as one of the highlights of Art Macao festival. Tickets for the additional show will be available from July 21st at CCM’s box office and Macao Ticketing Network outlets, subject to various discounts.
