Inter-departmental cooperation between MGTO and Consumer Council to launch “Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme” crossover “Certified Shop Scheme” – the first-ever joint seminar to enhance retail personnel’s sales techniques held today

MGTO and Consumer Council jointly organize “Sales Technique Seminar: To be the best in retail sales”

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and Consumer Council have introduced the collaborative initiative of “Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme” (QTSAS) crossover “Certified Shop Scheme” this year, extending QTSAS to local retail sector. The two entities co-organized a themed-seminar named “Sales Technique Seminar: To be the best in retail sales” today (30 July), as the first-ever activity held under this initiative, to help equip retail personnel with practical sales techniques and enhance service quality, thus creating satisfactory shopping experience to locals and visitors.

MGTO Acting Director, Cheng Wai Tong, President of the Executive Committee of the Consumer Council, Wong Hon Neng, and Head of Training and Quality Management Department of MGTO, Doris Leong, were present at the seminar with others. Hong Kong sales trainer Brian Cha was invited as the keynote speaker to share sales tips and techniques with approximately 360 sales participants from Macao’s “Certified Shops”.

Enhancing retail service quality to consolidate Macao’s image as a travel destination

MGTO Acting Director Cheng Wai Tong remarked that, MGTO and Consumer Council launched the collaborative initiative of QTSAS crossover “Certified Shop Scheme” this year, which embodies the synergistic effect of cooperation between departments from across secretaries. This innovative inter-departmental cooperation is in place to encourage and support the retail sector to consistently enhance service quality, and to protect the interests of consumers, with the common goal of promoting quality tourism and consolidating Macao’s image as an international city of tourism. He added, with Macao’s positioning as a world centre of tourism and leisure, the composition of visitor source markets is becoming more diverse, and new travel patterns benefited from the development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge emerge. He hopes that industry professionals can be well-equipped to contribute to the diversification and sustainable development of Macao’s tourism industry.

President of the Executive Committee of the Consumer Council, Wong Hon Neng, stated that, Consumer Council and MGTO signed a cooperation agreement this year to introduce a crossover between the “Certified Shop Scheme” and QTSAS. Through the cooperation, Consumer Council and MGTO work together to boost the overall service quality of local tourism retail sector and to promote honest business practices, making a joint effort towards transforming Macao into a world centre of tourism and leisure. This seminar is the first activity co-organized by the two entities under the crossover cooperation to help the retail sector enhance sales techniques.

Jointly define service quality standards for retail sector

This year, MGTO and Consumer Council launched the collaborative initiative of “Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme” crossover “Certified Shop Scheme” to jointly define service quality standards for the tourism retail sector, as well as recognize tourism retail merchants for their outstanding service and excellent service management. “Certified Shops” that receive grade A or A- in the assessment this year, and fulfill prescribed industry categories, will be automatically enrolled in QTSAS. The qualified retailers will then be selected as “Star Merchant Award” winners in QTSAS for the retail sector, and receive the “Star Merchant Award” accreditation valid for one year. Also, through this collaborative initiative, both QTSAS and “Certified Shop Scheme” can be promoted at the same time to visitors.

The first-ever co-organized seminar to share practical sales techniques

“Sales Technique Seminar: To be the best in retail sales” was the first seminar co-organized by MGTO and Consumer Council, following the launch of the joint initiative of QTSAS crossover “Certified Shop Scheme”. Last year, the keynote speaker, Brian Cha, had been invited to share his insights in a workshop under the “Celebrity Mentor” Workshop Series co-organized by MGTO and a local industry partner. Due to the overwhelming response, he was once again invited to share his unconventional sales techniques and practical skills with retail participants this year. With great experience in retail sales and strong acumen on consumer behaviors, Cha shed light on a number of topics in a lively and intriguing way. Some examples include understanding the real reasons which cause customers make a purchase, how to build mutual trust faster and how to drive repeat purchases. The seminar, to which retail participants listened with heightened attention, struck a chord.

Besides an entrepreneur, Brian Cha is also a motivational speaker and sales trainer from Hong Kong who has gained popularity on social media platforms. At the invitations of different established enterprises, Cha has shared his insights as a guest speaker and team trainer on sales.
