“2019 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Film Production Investment and Trade Fair” concluded successfully

The “2019 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Film Production Investment and Trade Fair” (hereinafter referred to as “the Fair”), co-organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR, the Film Administration of Guangdong Province and Create Hong Kong, was concluded successfully. The Fair facilitated interaction and exchange between the film industries of the three regions, with awards presented to two film projects.

The Fair, held from 10 to 11 September, featured a series of activities, such as the “Open Pitch” dedicated to film industry practitioners. The seminar “New Opportunities for Film Industries Cooperation in Greater Bay Area” hosted in the afternoon of 11 September by the Secretary-General of the Guangdong Motion Picture Industry Association, Zheng Dawei; the veteran film producer from Hong Kong, Mathew Tang; and the President of the Macao Motion Picture Industry Association, Chong Cho Kio, aimed at exploring the new opportunities currently available in this field. During the Fair, the Chen Xing from Guangdong has successfully paired with the film project Let’s Fight from Guangdong. Representatives of both parties have signed letters of intent of cooperation and investment.

In order to recognise film projects with great potential, two awards have been specially designed for the occasion, namely the “Best Film Project Award” and the “Most Investment Potential Award”, which were voted by the professional adjudicating panel and by investors from the three regions. The film project The Ceiling from Hong Kong received the “Best Film Project Award” from the Vice President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Chan Kai Chon, and the film project One More Round from Hong Kong received the “Most Investment Potential Award” from the Head of the Division of Culture and Sports of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, Li Fengzhou. The Fair was also attended by the President of the Administrative Committee of the Cultural Industries Fund, Leong Heng Teng; the Members of the Administrative Committee of the Cultural Industries Fund, Chu Miu Lai and Wong Keng Chao; the Deputy Director of the Film Administration of Guangdong Province, Lu Zhongguang; the Assistant Head of Create Hong Kong of the Hong Kong SAR Government, Mak Sing Hei; and the Head of the Division of Youth Organizations and Training of the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Wong Ka Ki, etc.

This is the fifth time that the event has been held in Macao since 2014, aimed at offering a quality platform for convenient exchange and pairing services between film producers and investors from the three regions, establishing a channel for film investment and collaboration among the regions, supporting the production of small-to-medium budget film projects and nurturing filmmaking talent, thus facilitating the integrated film industry development in the Greater Bay Area.
