Goal 1. Obtain an overview of the basic principles of cellular communication and interaction between neurons; 2. Understand the basics of neuroanatomy and brain function; 3. Gain practice on simple microscopy techniques to observe nerve tissue from common lab animal models.
Message Session 1 - Fundamentals of neuronal function and communication - Brain organization: Evolutionary perspective among different animal groups - Review of current studies and teaching materials about brain anatomy and function Session 2 - Basics of tissue preparation for microscopic observation - Observation of different samples of nervous tissue and comparison Session 3 - Overview of different electrophysiology techniques to test response of the nervous system to different types of stimuli
