The tourism authorities of Zhongshan, Zhuhai and Macao convened the “Work Meeting of the Tourism Alliance of Zhongshan, Zhuhai and Macao” in Zhongshan today (10 March) to discuss further cooperation in culture, tourism and related fields, push forward collaborations in destination marketing and expand visitor sources together continuously. On the same day, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) jointly held a Macao tourism and MICE presentation seminar in Zhongshan to showcase what Macao has to offer as a travel and MICE destination, with the aspiration to foster cross-sector cooperation including “tourism + MICE” and other fields between Macao and Zhongshan.

MGTO Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong; Deputy Director of Zhongshan Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau, Deng Shuling; Deputy Director of Zhuhai Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports Bureau, Wu Xiangming, as well as other officials attended the meeting.

Affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the “Work Meeting of the Tourism Alliance of Zhongshan, Zhuhai and Macao” could not convene in 2020 as scheduled. Zhongshan Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau remained the Rotating Chairman for two consecutive years. During the meeting today, Zhongshan Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau, as the Rotating Chairman of 2019, first presented an overview of tourism cooperation between the three cities over the last two years. A chairman rotation ceremony was then held to designate MGTO as the Rotating Chairman of 2021. The meeting proceeded with an introduction delivered by MGTO Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong about the plan on collaborative destination marketing in 2021, followed by a discussion among the three parties on future directions of regional tourism cooperation as well as joint promotional activities and projects to unfold in 2021. At the meeting, the three tourism entities agreed to offer full support for Macao’s development into a world centre of tourism and leisure, support and join each other’s organized activities, as well as to make collaborative endeavors in 2021 as follows: enhance mutual visitations between the three destinations; leverage the three destinations’ major tourism resources to create themed travel itineraries and highlight each destination’s glamour in promotions; jointly promote study tours across the three destinations; arrange for industry delegates from Macao and Zhongshan to pay an inspection visit to Zhuhai’s maritime, island and shoreline tourism projects; update travel guides of Zhongshan, Zhuhai and Macao, etc.

Upon the meeting, Zhongshan Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau arranged for Zhuhai’s and Macao’s tourism officials to pay an inspection visit to the Tourism Area of Sun Yat-Sen’s Hometown and Zuobu Village, to familiarize both destinations with Zhongshan’s tourism resources.

Macao tourism and MICE presentation seminar at third stop – Zhongshan
With the stable pandemic situation in the Mainland and Macao at present after months-long work of prevention and control, MGTO and IPIM commenced a series of tourism and MICE promotional activities in different cities across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area early this month. Leading a travel and MICE industry delegation from Macao once again, the two entities organized the third Macao tourism and MICE presentation seminar in Zhongshan today following the first two seminars held in Guangzhou and Dongguan this month. Industry partners in Zhongshan were offered an update on Macao’s tourism situation and “tourism + MICE” initiatives, etc. The seminar also raised Macao’s profile as a healthy, safe and quality destination, besides featuring a business matching and networking session to foster cooperation between both cities.

MGTO Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong remarked at the seminar that Zhongshan will foster online and offline integrated development across the fields of commerce, tourism, culture recreation, finance, health and so forth this year. It is also high on the city’s agenda to augment MICE’s enhancing impact upon economic progress and optimize the wealth of MICE resources for concerted development between MICE and other leading industries. Similarly, Macao will devote special efforts this year to promote integration between MICE and leisure tourism, including “tourism + MICE”, “tourism + culture and creativity”, “tourism + e-commerce” and “tourism + sports”, among other fields, to elevate the competitiveness of Macao’s tourism industry through multiplying effect. He believes that Zhongshan and Macao can learn from each other in their endeavors to advance “tourism+” development.
