UM holds Portuguese Language Day to increase language exchange

A Portuguese poetry recital

To promote the Portuguese language and the culture of Portuguese-speaking countries, the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Arts and Humanities recently held the annual Portuguese Language Day, a language and cultural exchange day for faculty members and students in the Department of Portuguese.

The day began with students singing Portuguese songs, followed by several poetry recitals, a drama performance, and a debate competition among the Debating Team students of the Department of Portuguese. The event attracted a full-house audience.

In addition, the Department of Portuguese held a ceremony to present certificates to outstanding undergraduate students and master’s students in a Portuguese reading programme. The programme was launched to stimulate students' interest in reading and the best readers are selected every semester. The event has been well received thanks to the support of faculty members, students, and staff.
