Riding on the “Macao Week in Hangzhou” roadshow to be unveiled tomorrow (26 March), Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) organized a Macao tourism and MICE presentation seminar in Hangzhou today (25 March) and led a travel and MICE trade delegation from Macao for participation. Industry partners in Hangzhou were offered an update on Macao’s tourism and MICE industry trends. The seminar not only enhanced trade exchange and cooperation between the two cities and promoted “tourism + MICE” integration across sectors, but also raised Macao’s profile as a healthy, safe and quality destination.
MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes; IPIM President Lau Wai Meng; Deputy Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group and Deputy Director of Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism, Zhao Hongzhong; Second-level Inspector of Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce, Zhang Ming, and other personages attended the seminar together with around 180 members of the travel and MICE trade from Hangzhou and Macao.
MGTO Director Senna Fernandes expressed her hope that the trade from both cities can capitalize on the seminar to explore cooperation across “tourism + MICE” sectors and develop new tourism products and services to expand visitor source together, in turn advancing the long-term tourism and MICE development in both Hangzhou and Macao. She also hopes that the Macao Week in Hangzhou can boost the confidence of Mainland residents in Macao as a healthy, safe and quality destination which radiates its glamour as in the past, under the pandemic control and prevention measures of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government.
IPIM President Lau Wai Meng expressed his belief that by deepening MICE and tourism cooperation between Hangzhou and Macao, it will not only enhance adequate diversification of Macao’s economy but also effectively support industry operators in Hangzhou to tap into the market of Portuguese-speaking countries, enabling both destinations to become collaborative enhancers of the dual-cycle economic model.
For tourism authorities, representatives of the travel and MICE trade as well as media in Hangzhou, MGTO introduced Macao’s latest tourism development and endeavors to revive its tourism market, besides promoting Macao’s diverse tourism resources and products, etc. In addition, IPIM presented Macao’s strengths as a MICE destination and encouraged MICE organizers to hold related activities in Macao. The seminar also featured business matching and networking on site, facilitating exchange and cooperation between tourism and MICE industry operators from Macao and Hangzhou.
As the pandemic situation remains stable in the Mainland, MGTO and IPIM jointly rolled out promotional activities for the travel and MICE trade in various cities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Through organizing the seminar in Hangzhou during this visit, the two offices also encouraged industry operators to launch a greater variety of Macao travel products and strive for more visitations from the Mainland to Macao, in turn stimulating recovery of Macao’s tourism and MICE industries.
Organized by the Secretariat for Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR Government, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Hangzhou Municipal People’s Government, Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism as well as Shangcheng District People’s Government of Hangzhou Municipality, the Macao Week in Hangzhou will enliven Hubin Pedestrian Street with a mega roadshow in Hangzhou from 26 — 29 March to showcase the city’s diverse offer of travel experiences and commercial opportunities and promote Macao as a healthy, safe and quality destination.
