Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, Mr Han Zheng, poses for a group photograph with leading officials of the administrative organisations of the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone, prior to the plaque-unveiling ceremony of the new bodies held in Hengqin.

Vice Premier of the State Council Mr Han Zheng has fully affirmed the recent work of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government, and extended his congratulations for its successful organisation of the latest Legislative Assembly Election.

Mr Han, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), made the remarks during a meeting on Friday (17 September) with the Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, while in Hengqin for a plaque-unveiling ceremony for the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone.

The meeting took place prior to the ceremony. Mr Han also posed for a group photograph with leading officials due to oversee the Cooperation Zone.

Speaking during the meeting, Mr Ho expressed his gratitude to the Central Government for its support, saying the MSAR Government would spare no effort in making good use of the favourable policies that have been made available to Macao, in order to push forward the city’s adequate economic diversification.

Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Mr Xia Baolong, also attended the meeting.

After the plaque-unveiling ceremony, Mr Han paid a visit to the Macao Neighbourhood project in Hengqin, to get a better grasp of its progress. The Macao Neighbourhood project is being jointly developed by the Macao and Zhuhai governments, and will provide Macao residents with integrated facilities in Hengqin, such as housing, education, healthcare and social services. The project is being managed by Macau Urban Renewal Limited.

During Vice Premier Han’s visit to the project site, he paid great attention to details regarding the progress on construction of the housing units, the transport facilities and facilities for public services.

Mr Han said livelihood issues were of key importance for overall development. In that regard, greater effort should be made to innovate the models for social governance and for public services. The goals were to build a pleasant new homeland for Macao residents, with convenient public services and easily-accessible public transport, as these elements would contribute to Macao’s further integration with the work on progressing national development.
