“Art Macao” offers diverse visiting experiences in early autumn

The “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021”, themed “To Create for Well-being”, presents a total of 30 art exhibitions under different themes from July to October, including the exhibition “Selected Works by Local Artists” which promotes local contemporary art, and the “Creative City Pavilion” which displays the cultural landscapes of creative cities, providing an artistic experience for art lovers roaming around Macao in early autumn.

The exhibition “Selected Works by Local Artists” at the Former Municipal Cattle Stable features a total of 12 pieces/sets of selected works by local artists. In order to connect Macao artists with international art platforms and enhance their international perspective, “Art Macao 2021” called for submissions of contemporary visual artworks from local artists in March this year under the theme “Advance and Retreat of Globalization”. 12 pieces/sets of selected works include: Mother by Cheong I Kuan, Paradise Series by Fok Hoi Seng, Stray Birds by Ho Weng Chi, Scattered by Ieong Man Pan, Allegory of Globalization by João Miguel Barros, League of Journeyers to the East by Konstantin Bessmertny, It Doesn’t Matter to Me by Kun Wang Tou, Glocalization by Lampo Leong, China Landscape No.2021 by Mak Kuong Weng, It’s Been a Hard Year by Sit Ka Kit, Evolution by Wong Soi Lon and Genesis on 720 Screens: The Unknowable_/_ by Wong Weng Io, demonstrating the distinctive understanding of Macao artists towards historical moments of the world.

In addition, two exhibitions of the “Creative City Pavilion” of UNESCO Creative Cities are open to the public at the Mong-Ha Villas, namely the exhibition “Wuhan: City of Design - Empathy” and the exhibition “Linz: City of Media Arts - The Art of Interface”, connecting the world with creativity. The exhibition “Wuhan: City of Design - Empathy” is divided into four sections that feature works around the theme, including “Witness – You Are the One I Care the Most”, Public Photography Project “Critical Point”, Charity Poster Exhibition “Design in the Epidemic”, Facemask Art Initiative “Color4Smile” and Art of Fashion Exhibition “Hui.Xin”, highlighting the creative capacity of Wuhan as a design city. The exhibition “Linz: City of Media Arts - The Art of Interface” displays the works of a number of renowned multimedia artists engaging in digital art from Linz, Austria, demonstrating the cutting-edge charm of contemporary interactive art, leading the audience to search for the form and existing meaning of interface. Visitors to the exhibitions at the “Creative City Pavilion” may receive a special face mask designed by the participating artists and local designers. Each person can obtain one mask only, while stocks last.

The three abovementioned exhibitions will be held until 24 October, and are open daily from 10am to 7pm. Admission is free. The Cultural Affairs Bureau will strictly follow the relevant guidelines of the Health Bureau and implement appropriate measures for “Art Macao 2021”, with visitor capacity limited to 50% of the pre-pandemic level. The public is advised to visit the cultural facilities at different times. All visitors must wear their face masks, undergo body temperature checks, present a valid “Macao Health Code” of the day upon entry, and follow crowd control measures onsite.
