The Macao SAR Gazette today published Administrative Regulation No. 47/2021 – Amendment to Administrative Regulation 22/2018, regarding the Committee for Safeguarding National Security of the Macao Special Administrative Region, to establish the posts of National Security Adviser and National Security Technical Adviser on the Committee for Safeguarding National Security, and clearly define the duties and responsibilities attached to those posts. The new Administrative Regulation will come into effect on 14 December 2021.
Upon receiving the Central Government’s approval regarding establishment of those advisory posts, the MSAR Government diligently expedited the gazetting of the above-mentioned Administrative Regulation, in order to provide local legal grounds for such appointments, and to provide assurance that the National Security Adviser and National Security Technical Advisers would be able to fulfil their duties and responsibilities.
The MSAR Government will actively support the National Security Adviser and National Security Technical Advisers in the fulfilment of their duties, and jointly take up the responsibility to safeguard national security. Meanwhile, Macao will perfect its legal framework and enforcement mechanism for the safeguarding of national security, and continue strengthening public awareness of national security issues, as well as safeguarding national sovereignty, safety, and development interests, and promoting in a stable and long-lasting manner the successful practice of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle with Macao characteristics.
