IPIM organises for over 120 traders to experience Macao’s MICE software and hardware facilities, as well as its peripheral tourism and gastronomic offerings

Trip.com Group, a global one-stop travel service platform, successfully held its 2021 Global Partner Summit for the first time in Macao on 9 December. As a continuous effort to promote Macao’s MICE strengths and diverse tourism resources, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) organised the “MICE Environment Experience Tour” yesterday (10 December) for over 120 participating traders to experience Macao’s MICE software and hardware facilities as well as its peripheral tourism and gastronomic offerings, to revitalise the community economy and promote the strengths of “tourism + MICE” among the participants.

Leveraging the synergistic effect of MICE events

To give full play to the synergistic effect of MICE events, a series of activities were organised for the traders, including field visits to Macao’s MICE facilities, the Portuguese tiles painting workshop, and in-depth exchanges with local agents of products from Portuguese-speaking countries, for them to experience Macao’s unique confluence of Chinese and Portuguese cultures. The delegation also visited some of the scenic spots in Taipa and Central District, as well as a number of local shops. Satisfied with their experiences and the arrangements, the participants said these activities further increased their understanding of Macao’s MICE software and hardware facilities and the abundance of tourism and cultural resources in the city.

Mr Chen, General Manager of the Destination Marketing and Strategic Co-operation Department (Overseas) of Trip.com Group, said that many guests found Macao an ideal MICE destination after attending the summit and that they had the intention to organise activities such as annual dinners, incentive travels and meetings in Macao.

Creating more employment opportunities

Mr Sit, the delegation’s tour guide, said in-depth travel would become the new direction for Macao’s tourism development, adding that community experience activities such as those offered for the guests could provide employment opportunities for the tour guide sector. Mr Lo, representative of a Portuguese restaurants, pointed out that the hosting of mega MICE events could bring more people into communities and create more business opportunities. Mr Sam, representative of an agents for products from Portuguese-speaking countries, indicated that the exchanges with professional traders from Mainland China could help their brands to establish a reputation in the mainland and increase mainland companies’ understanding of the cultures of Portuguese-speaking countries.

The “MICE Environment Experience Tour” is an experience activity specially designed for MICE organisers, professional meeting organisers, destination management companies, large enterprises, associations, and other MICE organisers outside Macao, as well as professional media, to attract more traders to hold MICE events in Macao.
