How to Apply

Time of Application

Persons whose Special Authorization to Stay has a shorter validity than the duration of stay for the collaborated activity or the duration of duty in Macao owing to the inadequate validity of the passport or travel document may apply for validity update at the subdivision concerned after renewing their document.

Application Procedures and Documents Required

  1. Application Approach
    1. Interested person or a legal representative making the application;
    2. The representative should submit the following:
      1. A certified letter of authorization;
      2. A copy of his/her valid identification document.
  2. Documents to be Presented
    1. Unless otherwise noted, the original should be exhibited for authentication if a copy is submitted;
    2. The copy should be authenticated if the original cannot be exhibited.
  3. Documents to be Submitted
    1. Original passport/travel document;
    2. New passport/travel document.

Remark/Points to Note

  1. According to Term 1, Article 66 of Law No. 16/2021, to apply for a visa, Authorization to Enter and Stay, Macao SAR Residence Authorization, Renewal or Extension of Residence Authorization means the interested person consents to have his or her personal information, which includes his or her biodata, treated by the Public Security Police Force.
  2. Upon completion of the validity update formalities, the applicant will be granted a new Slip of Special Authorization to Stay.
  3. Penalty for Overstay
    According to Law No. 16/2021 “Legal Regime of Immigration Control, Stay and Residence Authorization of the Macao Special Administrative Region”, persons who still remain in Macao after their Authorization to Stay expires and persons who do not leave Macao within the designated period after their Authorization to Stay is revoked are regarded as overstayers. Overstay is an administrative infraction, not a criminal offence. Therefore, overstayers are not condemned to a penalty of freedom deprivation.
    According to the law, an overstayer will be fined MOP500 to 800 per overdue day. The fine should not exceed MOP15000 and should be paid within the statutory 10 working days. The status of an overstayer who overstays for not more than 30 days, pays the fine upon giving himself or herself to the police or immediately after he or she is discovered and has never been fined for the same infraction in the past year can be normalized. Otherwise, the overstayer will be deported and interdicted from entry. In addition, application for Residence Authorization and Special Authorization to Stay will not be permitted for 2 years counting from the date the entry interdiction expires.
