China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries Film Festival themed “Dresses Galore in Films” presents a series of wonderful movies and showcases the charm of the cinematic world of China and the Portuguese speaking countries

Under the patronage of the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), and co-organised by the Galaxy Entertainment Group and SJM RESORTS, LIMITED, the “China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries Film Festival”, integrated in the 5th “Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries”, will be held from 10 to 24 November. Themed “Dresses Galore in Films”, this year’s Film Festival will feature over 20 film productions in Chinese and Portuguese, as well as outreach activities such as outdoor screenings, post-screening seminars and workshops, allowing the public to appreciate the aesthetics of cinema.

This edition of the Film Festival features four sections, namely “Dresses Galore in Films”, “Premiere of Chinese and Lusophone Films”, “Screening of Films about Macao”, and “Outdoor Screening”, featuring more than 20 different types of film productions in Chinese and Portuguese. The audience can experience the unique cultures of China, the Portuguese-speaking countries and regions, and Macao through fashion styling in films. The opening film Good Autumn, Mommy will be screened at the Galaxy Cinemas on 10 November. This film is set in a tranquil sugarcane village in the south, where Fong-tai (played by Shu Qi) and her family await the birth of a new family member. However, an unexpected incident shatters the serenity and beautiful life, leading Fong-tai on a journey to find her family and herself. The closing film Miúcha: The Voice of Bossa Nova will be screened outdoors at the Jardim Secreto, Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau on 24 November. This biographical documentary about Brazilian singer Miúcha will present the legendary story of the diva who breaks free from the shackles of tradition to achieve her own musical aesthetics.

During the Film Festival, various outreach activities will be held, including the Outdoor Screening – Animations of China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries and the Animation Character Crafts Workshop, to be held at the Former Iec Long Firecracker Factory; the Cantonese Opera Accessories Workshop and the Parent-child Portuguese Folk Dance Workshop, to be held at Anim’Arte NAM VAN; and a seminar on art and costume design in Hong Kong films, to be held at Cinematheque · Passion.

Various discounts are available for the “China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries Film Festival”. Audience members who consume a specific amount at designated restaurants at Broadway Food Street or at the Macao Fashion Gallery (No. 47, Rua de S. Roque, Macao) during the designated period will be entitled to receive a coupon for ticket redemption of the opening film Good Autumn, Mommy or a “Film Festival Discount Card”. The public can enjoy a “buy 1 get 1 free” offer when purchasing tickets for any screenings of the Film Festival at Cinematheque · Passion. The coupons are limited and subject to availability.
