Visitor arrivals for January 2025


Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals totalled 3,646,561 in January 2025, an increase of 27.4% year-on-year. Same-day visitors (2,155,279) and overnight visitors (1,491,282) rose by 45.6% and 7.9% year-on-year respectively. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of visitors (1.0 day) shortened by 0.2 day year-on-year in January, due to the growth in the proportion of same-day visitors in the total number of arrivals; the duration of stay for same-day visitors (0.3 day) went up by 0.1 day while that for overnight visitors (2.2 days) remained unchanged.

As regards source of visitors, visitors from mainland China increased by 33.8% year-on-year to 2,750,284 in January. Mainland visitors travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme totalled 1,606,802, up by 44% year-on-year. Among them, 111,698 visited Macao under the “one trip per week measure” while 25,933 travelled under the “multiple-entry measure”. Mainland visitors travelling under the “tourist group multi-entry measure” totalled 13,398. Visitors from the nine Pearl River Delta cities in the Greater Bay Area grew by 37.9% year-on-year to 1,414,199. Visitors from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (577,983) and the Taiwan region (77,163) rose by 5.8% and 28.8% year-on-year respectively.

International visitors totalled 241,131 in January, up by 21% year-on-year. Regarding the Southeast Asian markets, visitors from the Philippines (48,499), Indonesia (21,579) and Malaysia (11,982) rose by 42.2%, 54.6% and 9% year-on-year respectively, while those from Thailand (9,992) and Singapore (7,874) decreased by 26.6% and 11.3%. With respect to the South Asian markets, visitors from India (6,648) dropped by 2.2% year-on-year. For the Northeast Asian markets, visitors from the Republic of Korea (65,659) and Japan (12,029) increased by 29.9% and 13% respectively. As regards long-haul markets, visitors from the USA (12,367) went up by 13.2% year-on-year.

Analysed by checkpoint, number of visitor arrivals by land (2,987,663; 81.9% of total), sea (385,015; 10.6%) and air (273,883; 7.5%) showed respective year-on-year growth of 31.9%, 9.2% and 12.3% in January.
