Information from the Statistics and Census Service indicated that per-capita spending of visitors in the third quarter of 2005 was MOP 1,419, which dropped by 5% over the same quarter of 2004. Per-capita spending of visitors from Mainland China topped the list with MOP 2,863 and visitors from Hong Kong spent an average of MOP 947. Besides, per-capita spending of tourists grew by 5% to MOP 1,982 and that of same-day visitors was MOP 508, a decrease of 2% over the same period of 2004. Per-capita non-shopping spending (excluding gaming expenses) of visitors was similar to that of the same quarter in 2004, at MOP 845, of which “food and beverage” and “accommodation” accounted for 40% and 35% of the total, respectively. In addition, per-capita shopping spending was MOP 574, a decrease of 12% compared with the same period of 2004. Shopping spending on “Chinese pastry, candy and food” and “clothing and fabrics” shared 30% and 17% of the total, respectively. Per-diem spending of visitors was MOP 1,236 in the third quarter of 2005, down by 9% over the same period of 2004. Mainland visitors had the highest per-diem spending, at MOP 2,005. The average length of stay of visitors (1.1 days) and same-day visitors (0.2_day) remained unchanged compared with the third quarter of 2004, while the average of tourists increased by 0.2 day to 1.7 days.
