Information from the Statistics and Census Service shows that in the second quarter of 2005, the average daily nominal wage of construction workers was MOP396, of which the average daily nominal wage of skilled workers & semi-skilled workers was MOP424 and unskilled workers MOP238. The overall nominal wage index increased 5.3% compared with the first quarter of 2005. Nominal wage index of skilled workers & semi-skilled workers rose 6.4%, and that of unskilled workers declined 2.1%. The overall real wage index increased 4.5% compared with the first quarter of 2005. Real wage index of skilled workers & semi-skilled workers rose 5.5%, and that of unskilled workers declined 2.9%. Among the various occupations of skilled workers and semi-skilled workers, the real wage index of iron workers rose the most, up 14.1%; whereas that of truck drivers registered the largest decline, down 4.4%. Compared with the second quarter of 2004, the overall real wage index increased 26.0%, of which the index of skilled workers & semi-skilled workers rose 25.1%, and that of unskilled workers went up 33.3%.
