Macao welcomes media advice


The Chief Executive, Mr Edmund Ho Hau Wah, told an assembly of media representatives today that he welcomed their advice and help in monitoring the development of the Special Administrative Region, regardless of their origin and in what languages they published. Mr Ho was speaking to some 100 journalists and media professionals from around the world who had come to Macao to attend the 39th Assembly of the Chinese Language Press Institute. Speaking at the opening of the Assembly, Mr Ho said that in its long history, the Chinese language printed media had nurtured thousands of talented people and made a great impact on the world. For millions of overseas Chinese, the Chinese press acted not only as the gateways for information on the motherland and the world, but also as the carrier for their passion towards their hometowns, Mr Ho said. He reminded the attendees that at the freedom of speech, of the press and of publication, were enshrined in the Basic Law of the Macao SAR.
