Government to establish fiscal reserves

The Macao SAR Government would study the possibility of setting up fiscal reserves within 2007-2009, the Secretary for Economy and Finance, Mr Tam Pak Yuen, said today. Ample revenue has been recorded at present compared with the last two years, and since revenue expected in the next three years was sanguine, this is the appropriate time for the government to study the setting up of fiscal reserves, said the policy secretary. When asked by media about the income from gaming industry this year, Mr Tam said according to available figures there was an increase, especially in these last two months of the third quarter. He said there an increase of 40 percent in the first nine months when compared with the same period last year was ideal; and that this had already exceeded the total income from gaming industry for the whole of last year. Regarding a gaming operator having introduced a new strategic partner; Mr Tam said this kind of co-operation might benefit the diversification of the development of gaming and tourism industry in Macao.
