Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the population of Macao showed continuous decrease upon reduction on the number of non-resident workers; consequently, the population estimate totalled 541,200 as at 30 September 2009, down by 3,000 from end-June. In the third quarter of 2009, there were 1,224 live births, up by 17.8% quarter-to-quarter, with male babies accounting for 52.2% (639). The number of mortality cases totalled 373 and the major causes of death were Neoplasms and Diseases of the Circulatory System. Meanwhile, 5 cases of fetal mortality were recorded. The Health Bureau received 3,702 cases of Notifiable diseases in this quarter, consisting mainly of Influenza A/H1N1 (Swine flu) (2,847 cases), Influenza (478 cases) and Enterovirus Infection (137 cases). In addition, 828 cases of marriage registration were recorded, up by 13.3% over the second quarter of 2009. In the third quarter of 2009, there were 1,111 Mainland immigrants moving to Macao with One-way Exit Permit, a quarter-to-quarter increase of 80.7% (496); meanwhile, 334 illegal immigrants were repatriated, down by 26.4% quarter-to-quarter. Moreover, a total of 2,697 individuals were authorized to reside in Macao, up by 459 quarter-to-quarter. Total number of non-resident workers stood at 77,239 at the end of the third quarter, down by 6,377 quarter-to-quarter.
