The achievements of the executive, legislature and judiciary branches of the Macao SAR were affirmed by the Central Government, said the Vice President, Mr Xi Jinping, when he met Macao’s principal officials this afternoon. Mr Xi made the remarks when he met the Chief Executive Mr Edmund Ho Hau Wah, the President of Legislative Assembly Ms Susana Chou, the President of the Court of Final Appeal Mr Sam Hou Fai, the five policy secretaries, members of the Executive Council and some other prominent officials. He praised that the three branches of the Macao SAR had worked hard to secure the economic prosperity and social stability in Macao and promoted its development. These achievements were well appraised by the Central Government, Mr Xi said. Mr Xi conveyed his three aspirations for the Macao SAR Government. Firstly, it should study the fundamentals of the environment, maintain the social stability and economic development, and make pre-emptive contingencies for the impacts of the global financial turmoil. Secondly, the Government should implement the nine supportive measures introduced by the Central Government and further co-operate and integrate with the Mainland, and it should especially upgrade co-operations with Guangdong and Hong Kong. Thirdly, the Government should fulfil the four aspirations extended by President Hu Jintao during the 5th anniversary of the Macao SAR. Mr Xi reiterated that the first aspiration of President Hu was to enhance governance and that the Government should strive for the development of Macao. He also restated that Macao should stay confident and get prepared for the global financial turmoil. Last but not least, he encouraged the officials to make good preparations for the important events this year, namely the legislation of Article 23 of the Basic Law, the elections of the Chief Executive and Legislative Assembly and the celebrations of the 10th anniversary of the Macao SAR.
