Hotel Management Year 2 Students of the Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT) have raised MOP182,854.50 for the Action Oasis of the Chinese Educators Association of Macau. The cheque presentation was held on 9 June, while Acting President of IFT, Ms. Florence Ian and student representatives presented the donation to Mr. Lei Pui Lam, President of the Chinese Educators Association of Macau and Ms. Ho Sio Kam, Director of the Chinese Educators Association of Macau. At the cheque presentation, students expressed that, through organising this meaningful fundraising campaign, they not only put what they learned from theories into practice, but also learned the importance of team spirit. They believed that this is a valuable experience and were grateful for the support of the sponsors. The Chinese Educators Association of Macau (ADEDM) was established in 1920. As one of the distinguished cultural and educational organisations in Macao, ADEDM strives to unite educators and enhance Macao’s education and social service. The association established “Action Oasis”, a charity fund that provides education opportunities to the poor children in the mainland. The fundraising campaign for the Action Oasis started in 2006. The fund provides financial assistance to the needy children in desertification regions of Mainland China. It helps to subsidy the schooling and living expenses, and offers practical educational facilities to improve their education conditions. Action Oasis also sponsored children in poverty and with good academic performance to go to Beijing for study trip. IFT has always been supportive to the Action Oasis, aiming to encourage the spirits of friendship and love among IFT students. Besides placing the donation boxes in the campus, IFT also arrange students to cooperate with the Chinese Educators Association of Macau in organising a large-scale annual fundraising event as their final project. This is the fourth year that the event was held; donations were mainly from the sales of the gala dinner tickets and the wine auction. The gala dinner was organised by Hotel Management Year 2 Students of IFT. Students meticulously prepared the delicious traditional Macanese cuisine for 90 guests. At the gala dinner, a singing contest was held, with the theme of “Macao Idol”, 8 IFT students have shown their singing talents and 3 judges presented prizes to the winners. The climax of the gala dinner, wine auction took place at the same time. After over one hour of bidding, the wines which were sponsored by various individuals and wine suppliers were auctioned for over 130K. Aside from enjoying the pleasant meal together with the show, the philanthropists were offering their helping hands to the poor students in the mainland. Since 2006, IFT has raised over 433K for Action Oasis of the Chinese Educators Association of Macau.
