Hospitality measures enhanced to welcome visitors during the Golden Week National Day Golden Week Visitor Arrivals rose by 13%


As the 7 days National Day Golden Week holiday comes to an end, Macau welcomed more than 770,000 visitors, an increase of over 13% compared to the National Day Golden Week of last year. Among the total arrivals, about 580,000 were from the Mainland, a surge of 22%. The daily average number of occupied rooms was 18,730, increasing by 8.67%.
During the National Day Golden Week holiday, Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) sealed a total of 8 premises suspected to provide illegal accommodation and one operator, two touts and 5 managing staff were seized on site.
According to the preliminary figures, total visitor arrivals during the National Day Golden Week holiday period this year (1-7 October) reached 775,968, 13.27% more than the figure during the National Day Golden Week holiday period last year. Visitors from Greater China amounted to 93.39%, among which, 580,350 were from the Mainland, an increase of 22.34%.
Average occupancy rate of three-to-five-star hotels during the National Day Golden Week holiday reached 88.46%, a slight decrease of 1.54 percentage points compared to the same period of last year. However, the daily average number of occupied rooms was 18,730, increasing by 8.67%. The average occupancy rate of three-star hotels hit 91.22% (-0.15 percentage points), while that of four-star hotels reached 82.14% (-4.73 percentage points) and five-star hotels hit 92.03% (+0.26 percentage points).
The average room rate of guesthouses and hotels of different categories in Macau saw a rise during the National Day Golden Week holiday. The average room rate of three-to-five-star hotels was 1,759.57 patacas, up 23.66% on the same period of last year.
The average room rate of guesthouses stood at 393.42 patacas (+44.60%), two-star hotels 714.92 patacas (+41.08%), three-star hotels 1,530.07 patacas (+24.74%), four-star hotels 1,465.72 patacas (+34.77%) and five-star hotels 2,282.92 patacas (+16.80%).
From September 30 to October 8, MGTO, together with Guangdong Provincial Tourism Administration and Fujian Provincial Tourism Administration operated the tourism notification system, which together with the close collaboration among various departments and the support of tourism and related entities, helped to enhance the hospitality of the city to welcome visitors during the Golden Week.
MGTO also published on September 24 the rates of different hotel and guesthouse room categories submitted by the hotel industry referring to the period from September 26 to October 9 as convenient reference for residents and visitors. During the golden week period, MGTO inspectors intensified surveillance at Macau's most visited sites and border checkpoints, as well as carried on with the operations against illegal accommodation. During the Golden Week holiday, MGTO's information counters and the tourism hotline 28 333 000 continued to operate. The tourism hotline was attended by operators around the clock.
