The Monetary Authority of Macao released today the credit card statistics for the fourth quarter of 2011. The total number of personal credit cards in circulation was 527,359 at the end of December 2011, equivalent to an increase of 4.8% over a quarter ago. The numbers of Pataca (MOP) cards, Hong Kong Dollar (HKD) cards and Renminbi (RMB) cards were 398,659, 66,774 and 61,926 respectively. MOP cards, HKD cards and RMB cards witnessed respective growth of 3.5%, 1.9% and 18.1% quarter-to-quarter. On an annual basis, RMB cards surged 109.9% while MOP cards and HKD cards rose 18.1% and 11.4% respectively. As at the end of December 2011, credit card credit limit granted by banks in Macao reached MOP8.9 billion, up 5.2% from end-September 2011. Credit card receivables amounted to MOP1.5 billion while the rollover amount totalled MOP482.8 million, accounting for 32.5% of credit card receivables. The delinquency ratio, i.e. the ratio of delinquent amount overdue for more than three months to credit card receivables, slid to 0.82%. For the fourth quarter of 2011, the credit card turnover grew 10.3% quarter-to-quarter to MOP2.8 billion. The cash advance turnover was MOP139.8 million, accounting for 5.0% of total credit card turnover. Credit card repayments, in which payments for interest and fees are included, increased 5.2% from the previous quarter to MOP2.7 billion.
