The Government will strive to propel a healthy development of the tourism industry, putting forward strategies to accommodate markets changes, while to maintain the people’s living quality. The Government actively co-ordinates tourism activities to attract more quality tourists from other destinations and extend their length of stay, following the slight drop in visitor figures in the first seven months of this year. The Government is aware of the tourism challenges and competitions it is facing due to various external factors including unstable international economic environment, volatility of stock markets, and the changes of exchange rates. However, this situation also creates opportunities. On length of stay, tourist visited the city in the first seven months this year had stayed on average 2.2 days, compared to one day in 2014. Festive activities take place usually in the third and fourth quarters based on the characteristics of the industry. Those reputable events, including the International Fireworks Display Contest, the International Music Festival, the Food Festival, the Macau Grand Prix, the Macau Marathon, and the Parade through Macao, Latin City, are held for years and will appeal certain amount of spectators. To attract more international tourists, the Government will strengthen co-operation with the sector to create travel packages while promoting local attractions, cultural and sports events, and festivities. On tourism promotion, the Macau Government Tourism Office will hold 30, 50 and 20 promotional campaigns in the mainland, Asia and long-haul destinations respectively in the rest of the year. Macao is enlisted as one of the top ten destinations by an accredited agent in the sector, for the city’s special features of Eastern and Western cultures. The Office pays great attention to the synergy effect in tourist promotion, especially multi-destination travel model under the frameworks in regional co-operation and promotional packages with airlines. To transform Macao as a world destination of tourism and leisure, the Government will continue to uphold the visions in the Policy Address. For the sustainable development of tourism, the Government will focus on changing the travel patterns and attracting more international visitors, instead of pursuing the mere growth of tourist numbers. The Government will continue to study the city’s carrying capacity and will enhance infrastructure and tourism facilities for a better environment and more qualify services.
