The Government today signed an agreement – with provinces and regions of the Pan-Pearl River Delta – to further collaboration regarding the regional development of green events for the MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) sector. The agreement was signed on the opening day of the 11th Pan-Pearl River Delta Regional Cooperation and Development Forum and Economic and Trade Fair (“PPRD Forum”). The agreement focuses on the assistance and support Macao is offering to other members of the PPRD Forum regarding MICE development. The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, was this morning in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, to witness the signing ceremony of the agreement and to attend the opening ceremony of the PPRD Forum. In addition, Mr Chui also witnessed the signing of an agreement between Macao’s Nam Kwong (group) Company Limited and the local government of the Cangshan district in Fujian Province. The agreement focuses on the 'Internet+' strategy and the development of cultural and creative industries The current edition of the PPRD Forum was the latest of several meetings so far this year to discuss furthering cooperation among PPRD members, after the State Council issued in March the Guiding Opinions of the State Council on Deepening Pan-Pearl River Delta Regional Cooperation. After a keynote session held in the morning, three other sessions took place this afternoon. The afternoon sessions focused on, respectively: how better to explore cooperation opportunities between PPRD members via the China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone and the China (Fujian) Pilot Free Trade Zone; how to create synergies via the establishment of a planned logistics hub in coastal areas covering Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao (known as "Dawan area"); and how to develop further other potential sectors through cooperation among PPRD members. Officials attending today’s agreement signing ceremony included: the member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Secretary of Guangdong CPC Provincial Committee, Mr Hu Chunhua; the Deputy Secretary of Guangdong CPC Provincial Committee and Governor of Guangdong Province, Mr Zhu Xiaodan; the Deputy Secretary of Fujian CPC Provincial Committee and Governor of Fujian, Mr Yu Weiguo; the Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reform Committee, Mr He Lifeng, and representatives of ministries and departments of the Central Government. The Chief Executive and some of the members of the Government delegation returned to Macao in the afternoon. Other members of the delegation tomorrow (26 August) will visit the Guangzhou Fair and three areas of the China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone.
