The Electoral Affairs Commission for the Legislative Assembly Election received by deadline day a total of 31 applications – 25 relating to the direct election process and six to the indirect election process – for legal status from campaign teams wishing to contest the upcoming election.
The period for applications for nomination committees regarding the 2017 Legislative Assembly Election closed on Tuesday (20 June). The Commission had – up to that time – approved applications for legal status of six nomination committees wishing to contest the direct election.
According to the Legislative Assembly Election Law, once a campaign team has duly submitted its nomination committee application by the 20 June deadline, it is not allowed to amend its list of candidates.
The Commission is to notify trustees of respective nomination committees should any application be found to be missing required documents. Trustees are required to submit the missing material within five days, starting from the date the Commission issues a notice on such a matter. Failure to do so will result in the Commission rejecting the application.
The Commission is to rule – on or before 29 June – on the outstanding received applications for legal status as nomination committees. Once a decision on whether to approve or turn down an application has been taken, the respective applicants should be informed within the following day.
