UM students win Outstanding Paper Award at Hong Kong Institution of Engineers’s annual symposium

Two University of Macau (UM) students from the Department of Electromechanical Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology, received Outstanding Paper Awards at the annual symposium ‘Belt and Road: Opportunities for Control, Automation and Instrumentation Engineers’ of the Control, Automation and Instrumentation Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.

Titled ‘Integration of RFID and Big Data Technologies for Transportation Management’, and ‘Strategy of Applying Knowledge Management to Safety of Boiler Operation and Maintenance Engineering Industry’, the two award-winning papers propose the different ways in which electromechanical engineering technology can contribute to the ‘Belt and Road’. The papers were authored by PhD student Ho Weng Ian and master’s student Wan Ka Lok, respectively, and supervised by Prof Wong Seng Fat, with assistance from three undergraduate students on Prof Wong’s research team, namely Sun Kuok Chon, Loi Chong Keong, and Ho Chon Kin. Prof Wong was invited to be a keynote speaker in the symposium. He shared Macao engineers’ role and contribution in the Belt and Road’.

Held in the Charles K Kao Auditorium of the Hong Kong Science Park, the symposium attracted more than 200 experts and scholars from around the world, including the CEO of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, the deputy director of Electrical and Mechanical Services Department of Hong Kong SAR, and engineers from different places. Participants discussed the future trends of ‘Belt and Road’ in the field of control, automation and instrumentation.
