The Student Affairs Office at Macao Polytechnic Institute (“MPI” or “the Institute”) held an “Information Session on Postgraduate Study in Portugal and Academic Sharing“ , in which Professor Pedro Godinho and Professor Arnaldo Coelho from the University of Coimbra were invited to present the information of furthering study and career planning to MPI students. The “Information Session on Postgraduate Study in Portugal and Academic Sharing”, part of MPI’s “Postgraduate Skills Training Series”, was separated into 2 sections. The first section presented information about the University of Coimbra, and the second section released the annual report of the job market. It was a lively and informative sharing for the students.

During the information session, Professor Pedro Godinho explained to the MPI teachers and students how the University of Coimbra conducts its student recruitment. 16% of its student body consists of people from more than 90 countries or regions all over the world, rendering it one of the largest international student communities in Portugal with the atmosphere of international academia. There are eight faculties in the University of Coimbra and one of them is the Faculty of Economics, which is one of the most ancient in Europe with the longest history in Portugal. Currently, the Faculty of Economics offers four degree programmes on economics, sociology, management and international relations. Moreover, that Faculty is also a member of the EU-sponsored Erasmus Programme and, together with around 150 European participating organisations, has signed a student exchange agreement under that Programme.

In the information session, Professor Pedro Godinho and Professor Arnaldo Coelho focused on sharing the information of the Master Degree Programme in Management and Master Degree Programme in Marketing respectively. This enabled students who are interested in enrolling for these two courses to have prior preparation. In the second part of the information session, Professor Pedro Godinho introduced the research methods of doing academic discussion reports, whereas Professor Arnaldo Coelho shared the marketing skills and challenges confronting market sales in the 21st century.

MPI has always been concerned about student life in class and as well as students’ extracurricular activities. The Institute encourages students to consider furthering study in different career paths. Students who attended the information session expressed that as the Macao Government is promoting people to become equipped with three official written languages and four spoken languages, they should take this opportunity offered by MPI to further their study and learn Portuguese in Portugal. The organiser of the sharing session, the Student Affairs Office stated that they will organise different postgraduate information sessions from time to time and they hope that it will help students to answer some of their queries and at the same time students can have some solid information about furthering their study in different places.
