Inauguration of Cinematheque‧Passion

The Cinematheque‧Passion under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, was inaugurated on Thursday, 30 March, at 6:45pm, and was officiated by the Director of the Department of Education and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R, Xu Ting; the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Leung Hio Ming; the President of the Administrative Council of the Cultural Industries Fund, Leong Heng Teng; the Vice-President of the Committee of Cultural Industries, Hsu Hsiu-Chu; the member of the Administrative Committee of the Macao Foundation, Ho Kuai Leng; and the Chief Operating Officer of the Cinematheque•Passion, Rita Wong Yeuk Ying. Subsequently, three short films produced by three Macao directors (Tracy Choi, Chao Koi Wang and António Faria), taking the Cinematheque as theme, were also presented for the guests. An opening activity specially organised for Macao filmmakers was held at 8:30pm on the same day after the opening ceremony, starting a new chapter in the Macao film industry.

Adjacent to the renowned Macao’s world heritage listed icon Ruins of St. Paul’s, the Cinematheque‧Passion, located at Travessa da Paixão No. 13, is a three-storey multifunctional building assembled including film screening, local video storage, as well as film journals and book reading services. The ticket office, screening room and control room are located on the ground floor of the Cinematheque. Local film materials and videos, periodicals and magazines are available for residents in the film information room on the first floor.

As an interactive and exchange platform for audience and filmmakers, the Cinematheque is taking the role of promoting film culture and Macao films widely, cultivating art sense to Macao people and film lovers. Locals and tourists can make good use of the Cinematheque and enjoy more high-quality films from different parts of the world.

CUT Ltd. will be responsible for the programming and operation of the Cinematheque. The ticket office is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10am to 11:30pm; while the film information room is open from 10am to 8pm. The Cinematheque is also open during public holidays but is closed on Mondays.

Every month, the Cinematheque will hold different thematic film festivals or programmes, such as the “Director-in-Focus” programme. Every month, two to three films from around the world will also be premiered in Macao. The public is welcome to the Cinematheque. Ticket discounts are offered to students, seniors and members.

In addition, starting from April, in two weekends per month, two local short or feature films, under the programme “Discover Macao: Local Indies Revisited”, will be screened at the Cinematheque, allowing the audience to know more about local film productions. Admission is free.
