The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, has conveyed his congratulations by letter to all those chosen via Sunday’s elections to sit in the sixth Legislative Assembly.
Mr Chui’s letter was issued on Tuesday (19 September) after the confirmed results were announced by the General Audit Committee of the Legislative Assembly Election.
He also expressed his thanks on behalf of the Government to those in the electorate that had exercised their right to vote and to all election teams for taking part in the polls.
The Government is looking forward to cooperating with the members of the sixth Legislative Assembly in serving the interests of the public and in adhering to the one-country principle, while taking advantage of the two-system model, said Mr Chui.
The sixth Legislative Assembly Election – offering 14 seats by direct polling and 12 by indirect polling – was held on Sunday (17 September). The ballots were held in line with the principles of “One country, two systems”; “Macao people governing Macao”; a high degree of autonomy; and adherence to the Basic Law and the Legislative Assembly Election Law.
The dedication of staff from the Electoral Affairs Commission for the Legislative Assembly Election and of the General Audit Committee of the Legislative Assembly Election; as well as that of other public departments and civil servants had been an indispensable element in guaranteeing the success of the elections, said Mr Chui.
The Chief Executive also extended his thanks to all sectors of the community that had actively participated in the election process, including schools for providing polling centre facilities and media outlets for being objective in their reporting of election-related news.
