The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) is going to launch the 2017/2018 Household Budget Survey on 1 October. Data collection period covers one year until 30 September 2018.
The Household Budget Survey (HBS) is conducted once every five years in line with international practice. The aim of the Survey is to collect up-to-date information on the income and consumption expenditure of households in Macao to analyse the consumption patterns, income distribution and other aspects of households at all income levels. Along with the socio-economic development, more new goods and services are coming to the market, and the habits and consumption patterns of residents have also changed. Therefore, the collected data will also be used to update the basket of goods and services in the Consumer Price Index.
HBS employs the sampling method to select a sample of 7,410 residential units in Macao. In order to ensure the collected data can fully reflect the consumption patterns of households in different seasons and festivals, the Survey is conducted in 26 bi-weekly cycles and a sample of 285 units will be visited in each cycle, during which the households will be interviewed. Households of the selected units will receive a notification letter from DSEC 3-5 days prior to the start of the Survey. The date of the enumerator’s visit will be stated in the letter.
DSEC appeals for the support of the community for the 2017/2018 Household Budget Survey and pledges to abide strictly by the regulations of Statistical Confidentiality. All the personal data collected will be kept in strict confidence and DSEC calls for the support of the public to provide accurate information. To enquire about the Survey, verify the identity of the enumerator or make an appointment for interview, please call the HBS hotline at 8809 8809.
