Monte-Carlo Ballet stages Shakespeare’s dream

The Macao Cultural Centre, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presents Le Songe, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic play A Midsummer Night’s Dream, produced by the renowned Monte-Carlo Ballet. A signature piece choreographed by acclaimed French choreographer Jean-Christophe Maillot, the work will be staged in two shows scheduled for November 3 and 4 (Friday and Saturday), at CCM’s Grand Auditorium.

Raucous, witty and sensual, this choreographed comedy confronts the audience with a wave of their maddest desires, in a dream-like ballet merging the imaginary ambiences of three contrasting worlds, depicting three diverse love stories and musical dimensions. Le Songe’s plot is set to the sound of three creative, ingenious composers. From Mendelssohn’s clarity and grace, to Daniel Teruggi’s sensual passion and Bertrand Maillot’s comic scape.

Established in 1985, the Monte-Carlo Ballet have been led by Maillot since 1993. The choreographer turned the company into an international touring troupe as the principality became an exceptional home for dancers and a destination for audiences.

In parallel to the performance, CCM promotes various activities including a workshop hosted by the Monte-Carlo Ballet’s performers, designed to let dance enthusiasts absorb some of the company’s training methods. On the opening day, a pre-performance talk will be hosted to complement the show.

Presented by CCM with the support of the Galaxy Entertainment Group, Le Songe by the Monte-Carlo Ballet will be staged on November 3 and 4, 2017 (Friday & Saturday) at the Grand Auditorium. Tickets will be available from October 7 at CCM’s box office and Macao Ticketing Network outlets at various prices and discounts.
