Company statistics for the 3rd quarter of 2017


Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total number of newly incorporated companies in the third quarter of 2017 increased by 163 year-on-year to 1,250, as the number of companies operating in Wholesale & Retail went up by 122. Total value of registered capital went down by 6.4% year-on-year to MOP116 million, with that of Business Services (MOP17 million) decreasing by 5.3%. Analysed by industry, there were 486 newly incorporated companies operating in Wholesale & Retail, 257 in Business Services and 179 in Construction. Companies in dissolution totalled 160 in the third quarter, and the value of registered capital of companies in dissolution amounted to MOP33 million.

Analysed by size of registered capital, there were 899 new companies (71.9% of total) registered with capital under MOP50,000, and the total value of capital was MOP23 million. On the other hand, there were 26 new companies registered with capital of MOP1 million or over, and the total value of capital amounted to MOP48 million (41.5% of total).

As regards origin of capital, the capital came mainly from Macao (MOP68 million) and Mainland China (MOP22 million); capital from the Nine Provinces of the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region totalled MOP16 million, with 91.4% from Guangdong province. Analysed by combination of shareholders, there were 845 new companies established solely by Macao shareholders, and 136 joint ventures between shareholders from Macao and other countries or regions.

In the first three quarters of 2017, a total of 3,951 new companies were incorporated, up by 606 year-on-year; total value of registered capital increased by 1,858.6% to MOP7.6 billion. Number of companies in dissolution totalled 578, and the value of registered capital of companies in dissolution amounted to MOP119 million.

At the end of the third quarter of 2017, number of registered companies totalled 60,045, an increase of 4,229 from a year earlier.
