Co-organised by the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Convention and Exhibition Affairs, TaiwanExhibition & Convention Association, Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), and co-ordinated by Xiamen Convention and Exhibition Association, the “2017 Xiamen International MICE Week” was held from 6 to 9 November at the BaixiangWutong Hotel in Xiamen. IPIM organised a Macao convention and exhibition industry delegation to participate in the event in Xiamen. The activity attracted the participation of around 1,500 representatives from local and overseasconvention and exhibition industry including those from the BRICS.
The event aims to promote exchanges and co-operation among operators of the convention and exhibition industry in Mainland China with their counterparts in the Asia-Pacific region, the BRICS as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. On 7 November, before the commencement of the event, the President of IPIM Jackson Chang conducted a meeting with the Deputy Mayor of Xiamen Municipal Government Han Jingyi and other guests to exchange views on the future development of the convention and exhibition industry in Xiamen. At the opening ceremony, speeches were given by the Deputy Mayor of Xiamen Municipal Government Han Jingyi and the Deputy Director of the Foreign Trade Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce Han Shengjian. Keynote speakers included the President of China Convention and Exhibition Economics Research Association Yuan Zaiqing, Asia Pacific President, International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) Noor Ahmad Hamid, President of IPIM Jackson Chang, Director of the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Convention and Exhibition Affairs Wong Jeoven, Acting President and Secretary General of China, International Public Relations Association Zhao Dali and the Executive Vice-President of China Conference Hotels Alliance Wu Shaoyuan.
At the event, Mr Jackson Chang said that the Macao SAR Government continues to adopt the policy of giving “priority to conventions”, which aims at focusing on promoting the development of the convention and exhibition industry, by using convention and exhibition as a platform to promote regional co-operation between Mainland China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries as well as thecountries along the Belt and Road, and jointly seize the opportunities brought about by China´s significant development, as well as fully utilising Macao´s unique advantages as a commercial and trade co-operation service platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries and IPIM’s ‘One-stop Service’ for MICE Bidding and Support in Macao, so as to grasp the opportunities and explore more business opportunities in the MICE-related sector.
A“Convention and Exhibition Projects Matching Fair” and a “Asia Pacific Convention and Exhibition Industry Co-operation Salon” were held in the afternoon of 7 November. Representatives from local and overseas convention and exhibition industry enthusiastically expressed their valuable opinions and more than 50 business matching sessions were conducted for representatives of Macao´s convention and exhibition industry. A participating MICE representative said thatthe outcome was satisfactory andagreement on co-operation for 10 projects have been reached.
Members of the Macao delegation included the President of Macau Federal Commercial Association of Convention & Exhibition Industry Wu Kam Hon, President of the Association of the Advertising Agents of Macau Lo Tak Chong, Deputy Council Chairperson of Macau Fair & Trade Association João da Conceição Ramos, Standing Committee Member of Macao Convention and Exhibition Industry Ng Man Wai and the Senior ManagerofIPIM´sPromotional Activities DepartmentSam Lei, among others.
