Further effort fostering Macao’s competitiveness in tourism

The Secretary for Economy and Finance, Mr Leong Vai Tac, speaks to reporters.

The Government closely monitors the possible impact on Macao of public policy introduced in various regions, regarding development of the gaming industry, said the Secretary for Economy and Finance, Mr Leong Vai Tac.

Macao has been dedicating further effort to advancing its overall attractiveness as a tourism destination and enhancing its non-gaming offerings at local resorts, in order to foster its overall competitiveness and address worldwide competition, he added.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday (15 April), Mr Leong also commented on an investigation – by the Commission Against Corruption – regarding applications for temporary residency in Macao made via the Government’s major investment immigration programme.

Mr Leong had ordered a complete review of existing procedures and would seek to optimise such procedures if that were warranted. He stressed that all departments under his supervision had to process residency applications prudently and in a lawful manner.
