Goal 1. Understand the different properties of sound with daily life examples; 2. Obtain an overview of how animals produce and detect sounds; 3. Learn about noise pollution: main sources, measurement equipment; 4. Learn about the health consequences of noise pollution and current situation in Macau and worldwide.
Message Session 1 - Overview about the properties of sound through in-class practical exercises - Introduction to lab techniques for acoustic measurements and analysis Session 2 - Principles of animal acoustic communication, sound production and hearing - Lab recordings of animal sounds and introduction to simple experiments appropriate for teaching in classroom Session 3 - Overview about noise pollution, information sources on the topic, and consequences for animal communication and public health - Discussion about how to promote environmental education in the schools
