Huangmei opera version of Dream of the Red Chamber, one of China’s Four Great Classical Novels, will be staged in this year’s Macao Arts Festival. This innovative production accentuatesJia Baoyu’s deeds and rebellious image, bringing philosophical inspiration to the audience. The intertwining relationships between Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu, as well as Jia Baoyu and Xue Baochai cause conflicts that imbue the actors with a strong tension and power, at the same time leave the audience in tears.
A national intangible cultural heritage and a major opera genre in Anhui province, Huangmei opera has lyrical and sweet-sounding melodies, refined performance, natural timbre and is accessible to all.
