Great Austrian composer Gustav Mahler was a great symphonist and a trailblazer of orchestral song. A composer from a century ago, he is loved by today’s classical music fans for his ironic touch, mixed feelings of sadness and joy, and thoughts on the bittersweet life that audience can resonate with.
To commemorate the 110th anniversary of Mahler’s death, world-renowned bass-baritone Shenyang will join young instrumentalists Liao Xi, Liu Liyuan, Zhang Jingzhuo and Wei Yun, to present the works of Mahler, including cherished classics like Lieder und Gesänge aus der Jugendzeit, Des Knaben Wunderhorn and Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, as well as the composer’s only chamber work in existence today and his immortal love letter Adagietto written in musical notation.
