Free Man from the South is a contemporary dance theatre production by renowned choreographer Willy Tsao. Drawing inspiration from Tang dynasty poet Li Bai’s 26 well-known poems, it weaves together poetry, dance and music in a creative exploration, presenting a beautiful world of mountain, water, flower and moon. On a pure white stage, 14 dancers chant magnificent poems, adroitly moving their nimble bodies. They are poet Li Bai, and also the imaginative elves penned by the poet, taking the audience on a journey of imagination. Look! Poetry is dancing, and imagination is soaring.
Founded in 2005 by Willy Tsao and Li Hanzhong, BeijingDance/LDTX’s dancers come from all over China. The company has been providing a platform for Chinese artists to express themselves and convey their contemporary thoughts and ideas, while promoting dance through creations, performances, education and promotional activities.
