The global art scene has historically followed the trends set by European and American artists, and inadvertently neglected the rich artistic heritage of Southeast Asia. Now, with the sustainable development of the globalised economy and the ongoing growth of China's Belt and Road Initiative, there’s a notable shift towards contemporary Southeast Asian art. This emerging trend not only challenges the art world’s Eurocentric values, but it also paves the way for a more diversified landscape of contemporary art research, through the lens of postcolonialism. Some Southeast Asian artists will join this discussion on the development of Southeast Asian contemporary art.
