Having created more than a thousand pieces, Astor Piazzolla, tango’s foremost composer, has written the only “tango opera” in the world. With a complex script, María de Buenos Aires is a fantastical yet surreal work interlacing elements of music, dance and religion with recondite metaphors.
The City Contemporary Dance Company will present María de Buenos Aires based on Piazzolla’s original opera. Revolving around its several keywords, this talk will give a simple yet in-depth introduction to this fascinating piece.
