Bringing the world of dance to the big screen, Written on Water is a film by awarded Swedish choreographer, filmmaker and dancer Pontus Lidberg. Sensual and philosophical, it adds a new dimension to the exploration of desire and artistic creation through movement, questioning the permeable boundaries between fiction and reality.

Capturing the narrative through a succession of choreographic frames in various architectural settings, lyrically grasping textures and composing images with a sensible eye, the director lets the bodies move to tell the story. Unleashing his dancer gaze through the camera, he uses scenic light to depict a universe he is familiar with in an utmost physical way.

The film brings us to the world of Alicia, a happily married choreographer who is haunted by an unresolved love affair. When she searches through the depths of her memories to create a new dance piece about unfulfilled desire, tricked by her own creation, she finds herself in love with the male lead dancer.
